BITES to Devise Programme in Chip Design

The Board for Information Technology Education Standards (BITES) has tied up with IBM, Sasken, Intel, Synopsis, Texas Instruments and Wipro to design a two-year advanced post-graduate programme in chip design.

The course titled "Certified Professional in Concept to Chip Technology", will enable students develop projects in these companies as interns.

"The programme also provides networking opportunities among academia, industry professionals,
among academia, industry professionals, and educators working in the field of VLSI chip design to share innovative ideas and impart them to the participating students", a press release from BITES said. The course covers all aspects related to CMOS chip design and is meant to provide quality manpower to Indian semi-conductor industries, as there is now a large demand-supply gap.

The course covers 24 months of which the first nine months will have regular course work, internship in the next three, and the last 12 months will have advanced courses with electives and thesis (project work) with the participating companies.

Eligibility

Students who have finished their engineering degree in electronics and communication, telecommunication, industrial electronics, instrumentation, electrical and electronics, computer science and information science with an aggregate score of 65 percent can apply.

They have to write an all India entrance examination to be held in March. Final selection will be through personal interviews and counseling.

The programme will start in July. According to the press release, the course will be executed by United Telecoms Ltd., which provides education in emerging technologies such as VLSI, SOC, embedded systems, and so on.

The course will be certified by BITES.
