The Board for Information Standards is a non-profit Society set up by the Karnataka
Government, in association with IT industries and educational institutions, in order to
enhance the quality of IT education and help build quality manpower for the IT industry.
Our Vision is "to establish Karnataka as the acknowledged leader in IT by fostering
high-quality industry-relevant IT education". Our Mission is "to serve as a catalyst for
nurturing Excellence in our IT educational institutions, ensuring employability of our
Graduates, promoting quality of work of our Faculty, strengthening interactions and
networking among Stakeholders, and enhancing global competitiveness of our IT industry".
The focus of BITES is to create an effective IT eco-system by networking industries,
institutions, government, faculty and students on a voluntary and self-supporting basis.
Our Board currently has 18 Members, and consists of the CEOs of the leading IT companies of
India; the Principal Secretary, Higher Education; the Principal Secretary, IT, BT and S&T;
and the Director of Technical Education; of Karnataka; the Vice-Chancellor of VTU; and
Principals of reputed Technical Institutions in the state. Our Members include distinguished
Corporates and Technical Institutions.
Our major thrust areas include : Advice on Policy; Competitions and Awards; Curriculum
Development; Databases; Industry-Institute Interaction; Institutional Development; IT
Education Standards; and Leadership Development.
With the active involvement of our distinguished Members of the Board, and goodwill and
cooperation of our Stakeholders, we are striving to achieve our Vision and Mission, and
"helping to keep Karnataka at the forefront of IT".
